Text Size AIADMK and BJP cadres protested in Thiruppuvanam over the custodial death of Ajith Kumar. They demanded justice and the resignation of Chief Minister MK Stalin. Five policemen were arrested in connection with the death. The case was transferred to CBI. A judge began an inquiry into the death. SIVAGANGA: Cadres of AIADMK and BJP, led by senior leaders, RB Udhayakumar and H Raja respectively held a joint protest in Thiruppuvanam in Sivagangai district on Wednesday demanding justice for deceased temple security guard Ajith Kumar, condemning that a mere apology of 'Sorry' by chief minister MK Stalin to Ajith's mother is not enough and demanded the CM's immediate resignation. Five policemen have been arrested so far in connection with the custodial death of Ajith Kumar, 27, on June 28 during police interrogation by a special team at Thiruppuvanam in Sivagangai in a gold jewellery theft case. The case was ordered to be transferred to CBI for further investigation by CM Stalin on Tuesday after Madras high court on perusal of the preliminary post mortem report, observed that no part of the body of the deceased was spared and even an ordinary murderer would not have inflicted such kind of injuries. Sivaganga SP Ashish Rawat was also shunted out and placed on compulsory wait list while Manamadurai DSP N Shanmugasundaram was suspended. On Wednesday morning, following Madras High Court direction, S John Sundarlal Suresh, IV Additional District Judge, Madurai, began his enquiry into the custodial death of Ajith Kumar. He inspected the premises of the Bathrakaliamman temple in Thiruppuvanam where the accused policemen allegedly subjected him to custodial torture by beating him with sticks or pipes and a video of the same was shot on mobile phone by a witness. He later also inspected the Thiruppuvanam police station. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu cooperation minister KR Periyakaruppan on Wednesday handed over relief to the family of deceased temple security guard Ajith Kumar, including a government job appointment order to Ajith's brother Naveen Kumar and a free house patta.
