With just days to go for the grand Rath Yatra of 2025, the construction of the three iconic and holy chariots, namely the Nandighosa, Taladhwaja, and Darpadalana, for Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra, respectively, is nearing completion at the Ratha Khala in Puri.
Ground visuals featured carpenters and artisans, particularly the Maharana and Bhoi servitors, working in seamless coordination to meet the tight deadline.
Reports stated that so far, all structural elements of the third and final deck (agha bhui) of each chariot have been completed. This includes fixing decorative wooden panels, known as Potala, on all four sides, with four already installed atop the third tier. Two of the inclined wooden supports, or seni, have also been secured.
Additionally, intricate carvings on the wooden wheels are in the final stages. Artisan servitors are engraving traditional motifs on the pataguja (side panels) of each chariot, marking the last phase of artistic work.
All components like para bhadi (wheel guards) and khapuri (crown-like structures) have been completed, indicating that the chariots are nearly ready for the divine journey scheduled to begin soon.
Stringent Measures to Curb Violations During Festival
Meanwhile, the Odisha government has announced a series of regulatory reforms to ensure a smooth and disciplined Ratha Yatra this year. Addressing the media, State Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan stated that non-servitors found climbing the chariots will be arrested immediately.
To uphold ritual sanctity and enhance safety, mobile phones have also been banned for servitors atop the chariots.

Lists of Servitors to Regulate Participation
To streamline participation, especially during key rituals like Pahandi Bije and Ghanta Seba, the government is compiling specific lists of eligible servitors. These are being prepared in consultation with the Chhatisha Nijog, the apex servitor body.
With the Rath Yatra being a religious heritage and cultural spectacle, this years approach aims to blend devotion with discipline, ensuring that Odishas grace and tradition get underway with safety at its heart.
