Police have made an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) following a fire at Bakers Bend, 20 kilometres south of Charleville.

Emergency services were initially called to the Mitchell Highway around 6:30am following reports of two chemical trailers on fire.

A PSPA was declared at 8:59am with the exclusion zone encompassing a large section of the Mitchell Highway near the Angellala Creek bridge.

Members of the public are advised to avoid the area and residents within the exclusion zone are advised to leave immediately.
