The Imo State Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, has banned tactical police teams across the states 27 local government areas from using unmarked vehiclesincluding mini-buses and tricyclesfor patrol duties.
This directive was contained in a statement issued Tuesday night by the commands spokesperson, Henry Okoye.
According to the statement, the ban followed widespread complaints from members of the public about alleged harassment, intimidation, and extortion by officers operating in such vehicles.
The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, has issued a firm directive banning all tactical teams from using unmarked vehicles, including mini-buses and tricycles (Keke), for patrols across the state, the statement read.
This action follows numerous complaints of harassment, intimidation, and extortion by some tactical officers operating in unapproved vehicles while on routine patrols.
The police chief described the use of unmarked vehicles as grossly unprofessional and warned that officers found violating the directive would face immediate sanctions. He added that commanders of such teams would be held vicariously liable.
The Command reiterates its commitment to upholding professionalism, accountability, and ethical policing standards in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, the statement added.
All units in the state have been directed to comply strictly with the new policy. The public is also encouraged to report any infractions to the appropriate authorities.
