Ogun State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Hameed Ademola-Benco, has said that the ongoing strike by the state workers is a total shutdown.
He said that the organised labour is tired of empty promises by the government, stressing that the workers would want to discuss the issue with the governor.
Ademola-Benco said that the strike is premised on four cardinal issues, which include the contributory pension scheme, outstanding accrued allowances, and readjustment of the new minimum age. He, however, commended the union for the total compliance with the strike, urging members to stay resolute in the face of the challenge.
Similarly, the Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that the indefinite strike embarked on by workers in the state is not only lawful but also a legitimate right.
The states PDP Chairman, Abayomi Tella, stated this yesterday in a statement signed by the partys Publicity Secretary, Kayode Adebayo. The party, while supporting the workers and calling on all professional associations, including the Association of Community Health Practitioners of Nigeria, to stand united, accused the government of always dipping its hands into workers legitimate savings with reckless abandonment, thereby committing a clear breach of law, trust, and social contract.
The statement read in part: Our great party, on the strength of our robust relationship with the workforce, makes bold to align fully with the decision of the organised labour to suspend their services indefinitely starting midnight, Tuesday, July 15, 2025, until justice is served and the life savings of Ogun State workers are secured from continuous plunder by the Dapo Abiodun-led administration.
We equally commend the call on all professional associations, including the Association of Community Health Practitioners of Nigeria, to stand united.
It, therefore, charged the State House of Assembly, traditional rulers, community leaders, and all conscientious citizens to rise above partisan biases and demand transparency and accountability in the treatment of Ogun State workers.
